Workshops and meetings

The FMTM, by its territorial anchoring and proud of its influence, wishes to allow the inhabitants to appropriate or reappropriate the living heritage that the puppet represents.
Throughout the year, the public relations team proposes meetings between artists and spectators in the form of residency outings, workshops for children, courses for adults, and participatory shows for amateurs.
These moments of sharing allow people to discover puppetry or to improve their skills in the construction and manipulation of puppets of all kinds with contemporary puppeteers from the Ardennes or from other countries.

A poetic and very cinematographic writing tool, object theatre allows us to tell stories with the object as our main play partner.
In a playful and progressive way, we propose to familiarise you with their power of suggestion, their symbolism…. Quietly, using the objects as a support, we will let the imaginary speak, while working on the physical presence, the manipulation, the rhythm….
In line with the show we are doing in Charleville “Tire toi de mon herbe Bambi”, we will work on the theme of life.

Conferences on shadow theatre

Shadow theatre is mostly known in its most basic form. Yet it is rich and abundant, as shown by its incredible development over the last 40 years.
To shed light on this issue, the International Puppet Institute and the World Puppet Theatre Festival are opening a series of four conferences on contemporary shadow theatre.

Wednesday 14th December
6pm to 7pm: On the theatrical vocation of shadow.
Dialogue with Julien Gaillard and Fabrizio Montecchi.

Thursday 15th December
2:00 pm to 3:30 pm: Journey in shadow theatre between tradition and innovation. Dialogue with Jean Pierre Lescot and Fabrizio Montecchi.

Thursday 15th December
7pm to 8.30pm: The journey continues… in the folds of shadow theatre.  Video clips (from the archives of the International Puppet Institute) of some shows from the last 40 years that have made the history of contemporary shadow theatre, proposed and commented by Fabrizio Montecchi.

Friday 16th December
6 to 7 pm: Contemporary pedagogies and poetics of shadow theatre. Dialogue with Fabrizio Montecchi and the Théâtre de Nuit.

At the ESNAM Theatre
16 avenue Jean Jaurès, Charleville-Mézières

In French.

All audiences, curious and passionate

Free admission

These conferences are organised within the framework of PREAC #5, training for trainers.

Fabrizio Montecchi is a director, set designer and teacher. Since 1978, he has been involved with Teatro Gioco Vita in an important artistic experience in which he has worked on the development of shadow theatre. Since 1985, he has directed more than fifty shows and has established himself as one of the greatest directors of contemporary shadow theatre.

Jean-Pierre Lescot, a French artist and actor, founded the company Jean-Pierre Lescot Les Phosphènes in 1968. A pioneer in the revival of shadow theatre in France, he directed the Roublot theatre in Fontenay-sous-Bois from 1988 to 2003. He founded the biennial Voyages en marionnettes festival, which became the “Pôle de la marionnette en Val-de-Marne” in 2003, with an annual programme and a mission to support young artists. He was also a lecturer at the École nationale supérieure des arts de la marionnette (ESNAM) in Charleville-Mézières and president of the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes from 2019 to 2022.

Julien Gaillard is an author. After a brief period at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he became an actor and worked, among others, under the direction of Christian Boltanski, Éloi Recoing and the composer Franck Krawczyk. In 2010, he decided to devote himself exclusively to writing. His texts are situated at the crossroads of theatre and poetry, in that indeterminate zone where narrative, prose and verse never cease to be in search of a possible dialogue with the temporality of theatre itself.
